Crystal Care Guide: Preserving the Brilliance
Fine crystal is a timeless investment. With proper care, your Margerie Crystal collection will retain its dazzling brilliance and clarity for generations to come. Here is how we recommend caring for your handcrafted pieces.
1. The Washing Ritual
-
Hand Wash Only: We strongly advise against using a dishwasher. The high temperatures and harsh detergents can dull the crystal's surface over time.
-
Temperature: Wash in warm (not hot) water with a mild, non-abrasive liquid soap.
-
Technique: Wash one piece at a time to avoid chipping caused by contact with other glasses or the sink. If you wear rings, we suggest removing them or wearing rubber gloves to prevent scratching the glass.
2. Drying & Polishing
-
Immediate Drying: To prevent water spots, dry your crystal immediately after washing.
-
The Cloth: Use a soft, lint-free microfiber or linen cloth. Avoid using fabrics treated with fabric softeners, as they can leave a film on the glass.
-
The Method: Hold the glass by the bowl (never by the stem or base alone) to avoid twisting and snapping the stem. Gently polish the glass to restore its signature sparkle.
3. Serving & Usage
-
Temperature Shock: Crystal is sensitive to extreme temperature changes. Do not pour boiling hot liquids into a cold crystal glass, and avoid putting crystal directly into the freezer.
-
Ice: Place ice cubes into the glass gently; do not drop them from a height, as the impact could damage the delicate bottom of the glass.
4. Storage
-
Store your crystal glasses upright. Do not stack them unless they are specifically designed for stacking, as this can cause scratching or chipping.
-
If storing for long periods, ensure the space is free from strong odors, as crystal can absorb them over time.
Treat your Margerie Crystal with the same care used to create it, and it will remain a sparkling centerpiece in your home forever.
