Craftsmanship

The Soul of the Object

In a world of uniformity, Margerie Crystal stands for the unique. We reject the cold perfection of factory molds in favor of the warm, living character of handmade art. Every piece in our collection is a testament to human skill, patience, and an unwavering dedication to beauty.

Step 1: The Breath of Life (Mouth-Blowing)

The journey of every Margerie goblet begins in the heart of the furnace, heated to over 2000°F. Here, our master glassblowers gather the molten crystal on the end of a blowpipe.

With a powerful, controlled breath—a technique unchanged for millennia—the artisan infuses life into the glowing orb. This is a dance of timing and gravity. The glass is constantly rotated, expanded, and shaped using simple wooden tools and the artisan's own instinct. This process ensures that the crystal is not just formed, but "born," giving it a structural integrity and clarity that machine-made glass can never achieve.

Step 2: The Precision of the Cut (Hand-Cutting)

Once the glass has cooled and tempered, it moves to the "cold shop," where the true personality of the piece is revealed. This is where our signature geometric patterns come to life.

Using diamond-tipped wheels, our master cutters carve intricate designs directly into the surface of the crystal. This requires a steady hand and an artist’s eye. One slip, and the piece is lost. The deep, criss-cross cuts you see on our Gloria or Lanza series are not molded; they are physically removed from the crystal, creating sharp, prismatic facets that catch and refract light like a diamond.

Step 3: The Polishing & Inspection

The final stage is the polishing. The rough cuts are smoothed and buffed to a brilliant, high-gloss finish, allowing the true vibrancy of the color to shine through.

Finally, every single piece undergoes a rigorous manual inspection. We look for the weight, the balance, and the clarity that defines Margerie Crystal. Because our products are handmade, you may find minute variations—a tiny bubble or a slight difference in weight. These are not flaws; they are the hallmarks of authenticity, the fingerprint of the artisan who made it.

Certified Handmade

When you purchase from Margerie Crystal, you are supporting a dying art form. You are choosing the "slow luxury" of the handmade over the instant gratification of the industrial. You are choosing a piece with a soul.
